For seekers writing in the age of insight

Discover the methods of creatives, authors, and marketing masters to improve your writing and storytelling.

Writers of the ancient age had to wait for the muse to inspire them. Now, we’re swimming in information, but lack insight. It’s up to us to source this insight to bring our online and offline writing to life.

This site is for curious writers, founders, and drivers of creative projects who are hunting how to stand out with their words.

Let's explore

We talk about everything creatives think about in the shower. (Apart from that. Get your mind out of the gutter).

Creativity

Where do ideas come from? And how do you access the ones that make a difference? We study the sparks of creativity that make great content, copy, and stories.

“Original minds are not distinguished by being the first to see a new thing, but instead by seeing the old, well-known thing, which is over-looked by everyone, as something new.”

― Friedrich Nietzsche

Story

To capture imaginations, ideas need structure. Brands, content, art, and fiction all tell stories. We study story elements and how they inspire us to think, feel, and act.

“When we look for the meaning of life, we want a story that will explain what reality is all about and what my particular role is in the cosmic drama.”

― Yuval Noah Harari

Content and copywriting

Markets shift, and how people engage with content and art evolves. We research modern marketing trends alongside timeless copywriting tips to help you reach, teach, and engage your audience.

“It takes a big idea to attract the attention of consumers and get them to buy your product. Unless your advertising contains a big idea, it will pass like a ship in the night.”

— David Ogilvy

Hello, I’m Tom 👋

How can I improve my skills as a writer” is a question I’ve had since I was ten, when teachers predicted I’d be a journalist (spoiler: I didn’t).

Instead, I studied creative writing at the University of Kent—three years of learning from great stories and writing not-so-great ones. I published a fiction novella, but only my dad bought it… so I wanted to learn how to reach more people with my words.

For 8+ years I’ve written copy, research, and content for companies in education, digital publishing, and business consulting. I’m grateful thousands read my content every day. But there are some questions I still can’t shake:

Questions like Why do I get more ideas when I stop thinking about them? Or How is Stephen King such a prolific writer? Or How can I influence people through writing? Hunting the Muse is a site dedicated to answers.
